This renovation of a Dutch Colonial farmhouse in the Catskill Mountains preserves a 1784 stone residence as the centerpiece of a new plan. From the original farmhouse, a new series of interconnected structures extends across the landscape. These internally linked pavilions are inspired by local barns and create different interior volumes for the kitchen and dining area, a library, and the bedrooms. The original house now contains a great room open to the original timber roof beams with a huge stone fireplace as its focus.
By creating a community of related buildings, the design gives the impression of a small village in the lush, rural landscape.
