United Synagogue of Hoboken

Our firm’s renovation of this historic synagogue and nursery school in Hoboken, New Jersey included an extensive upgrade of the building’s aging electrical and mechanical systems. Consequently, new HVAC units were installed on the roof of the 15,000-square-foot building supported by a new steel structure. Ducts for heating and cooling were carefully inserted into the Sanctuary in a way that preserved the building’s original details. On the exterior, the synagogue’s copper onion dome and terra cotta spires were restored to their original forms while the brick façade and stone coping were cleaned and repointed. To enhance the experience of the social gathering place, skylights were added to bring daylight into the main auditorium and new interior finishes were selected for classrooms and administrative offices.
