The renovation of this apartment in a noted Art Deco building overlooking Central Park combines an art collector's apartment with a matching unit on the floor below. The new duplex preserves the intimate scale of the old apartment while creating contemporary and functional spaces for entertaining. Simplifying the original tight floor plans improved the organization of space and permitted circulation throughout the two apartments. Removing walls and combining rooms within each unit introduced light and air into the interior. The living room, study, dining room, and kitchen are located on the first floor while a spiral staircase leads to bedrooms and a private sitting area above. John Barman was the interior designer on the project.
